Employee Spotlight: Blanca Garcia

Our Teammate of the Month isn’t just someone who gets the job done; they embody our values, uplift those around them, and make a lasting impact. Get to know Blanca Garcia, a Payroll Director on the Accounting team and Tandym’s Teammate of the Month for August 2026!

Who are you?

First and foremost, I’m a Latina, born and raised in the Bronx. I grew up in the South Bronx near Brook Avenue, attended Morris High School, and completed two years at Bronx Community College.

I’m also a mom of three, two daughters and a son, who are all adults now. I’m an autism mom as well, which has come with its challenges, but through the years we’ve found a routine and structure that works for our family. Having an autistic son has helped me to grow even more throughout the years.

At this stage of my life, family is everything. I love taking family vacations and spending time with my two grandchildren, who recently turned 3 and 11. Eight years ago, my family and I moved from the Bronx to Goshen, New York, and that change has made a tremendous difference in our lives.

Build your ideal sandwich.

My ideal sandwich is a seeded Italian hero with American cheese, Genoa salami, honey ham, lettuce, tomato, and a little mustard. Absolutely no mayo! It’s simple, but you can’t go wrong with it. You can take it to the beach, take it to the park, or enjoy it at home. It’s the perfect go-to sandwich for me.

Who were your heroes and inspirations growing up?

I wouldn’t necessarily say I had one specific hero or role model. What motivated me most was watching my parents and realizing that I wanted to do more and continue learning and growing. There were certain things they may not have known or had the opportunity to teach us, especially when it came to topics like finances or education. That motivated me to educate myself so I could build upon what they gave me and offer even more to my own family.

If you could compete on any reality or game show, which would you choose?

I definitely wouldn’t want to be on a reality show as I’m a private person. If I had to choose a game show, I’d probably pick Family Feud. It would be something fun that I could experience with my family.

What is a fun fact about you?

I went to high school with Fat Joe, and I’m actually in his book! There’s a photo of his sister and a group of her friends, and I’m one of the girls in the picture. I didn’t even know the photo was included until my nephew bought the book and asked, “Titi, is this you?”

It’s funny to look back at how we dressed, especially those big hoop earrings. I haven’t seen Fat Joe in years, but it feels good to see someone from the neighborhood accomplish what he set out to do. Despite his success, he has always stayed true to who he is and has never forgotten where he came from. I’m a firm believer in always staying humble.

If you had a signature catchphrase, what would it be?

“Let’s get it together!”

For me, “Let’s get it together” means improving yourself, continuing to grow, putting yourself out there, and doing the necessary legwork. With what you do in life, professionally or personally don’t minimize it, get it together, and do the best you can. Put in all the effort possible because that is how you truly learn and grow.

Did you find Tandym, or did Tandym find you?

Tandym found me. I was still with my previous employer when an outside recruiter reached out about the opportunity. Responding to those types of messages wasn’t normally something I did, but for some reason, it caught my attention, and I responded to this one.

Once I learned more about the role, I realized it aligned closely with the work I had been doing for decades. At the same time, I felt ready for a change. The entire process was very seamless. I met with members of the Tandym team, and a few weeks later, here I was.

If you weren’t working in your current profession, what completely different career would you pursue?

People have always told me I should have been in Family law, probably because I always spoke up a lot as a child. I wasn’t afraid to advocate for myself or for others when it was truly needed. I have had to advocate for my son many times!

How did it feel to hear your name announced as Teammate of the Month?

I was very shocked when I heard my name. I had to take a second look at my picture on the screen!

Based on the description that was given, I thought it might be someone from the back office team because they mentioned that it was a person who works with nearly everyone throughout the company. In Payroll and Billing, we interact with almost every person at Tandym, as well as people outside the organization. We support individuals in many different ways, so I had a feeling it might be someone from our area. Still, I was genuinely surprised when I saw my picture.

A lot of people reached out afterwards, which I really appreciated. I love what I do and being able to assist others makes it even better. It feels good to be acknowledged. My team and I are constantly focused on getting the work done and making sure people are paid because that is their livelihood. We’re so focused on helping others that we don’t always realize our work is being noticed. Receiving that recognition was an amazing feelingm and I thank everyone at Tandym.

If you had to live in another country for one year, where would you go?

My husband and I are at a stage in our lives where we’re thinking more about traveling to places we’ve never experienced before.

My first instinct is somewhere in the Caribbean because I want to eliminate heavy clothing during winter and have my toes out 24/7! I love Puerto Rico, but it isn’t really another country, and I don’t know if I would live there for an entire year.

I think I would choose Italy. It has good weather, incredible food, and a completely different culture. If you’re going to do something like that, you should step outside the norm and get out of your comfort zone. Plus, I could come back and cook everyone some real Italian food, which is a favorite of mine!

What are your goals for the remainder of 2026 and beyond?

My goal for the remainder of 2026 and into 2027 is to do better every day than I did the day before. I always want to continue to grow and find different ways to help others do the same.

I want to help continue to assist in streamlining processes within the organization so that I can be a part of contributing to Tandym’s success.

What mascot best represents your personality?

I would say a Lioness, because it symbolizes strength, feminine power, grace, leadership, and resilience.
